AMD Socket A slides into oblivion
George Ross, July 12, 2005
The last of the socket A CPU's have shipped. The INQUIRER has a picture here. This is indeed a good time to reflect on what the platform has done for me. Currently all of my computers are based on Athlon XP "Bartons". They have served me well and will continue to do so for some time. However I can not help but think this will help make the Athlon 64's cheaper in the months to come. It's been about two years since my last major upgrade, and my gaming rig is getting kind of old. If there were a MCE 2005 64-bit version I would even consider upgrading my media center.
